Siemens optimization technology cuts the key to the operation and management of pumping stations

In the operation management of the waterline pumping station, SiwaPlanBEP (Best Efficiency Point) enables efficient use of electrical energy. The tools developed by Siemens Industrial Systems and Technical Services Group (I&S) use mathematical optimization techniques to determine the most economical combination of pumps and their operating parameters (such as pump speed) at constant flow, thus making the variable speed pump drive at its optimum efficiency. Run within range. The plant operator only needs to set the delivery flow rate of the pipeline, and SiwaPlanBEP can automatically provide recommendations for optimal operating conditions for all pumps.

Safety and efficiency are among the most important aspects of water transfer projects. Several factors have a decisive influence on the cost-effective operation of the pumping station. One of the key factors is the efficiency of the pump when setting the delivery volume, the best efficiency point (BEP).

SiwaPlanBEP ensures that the pump operates in the high efficiency zone given the amount of water delivered. The software tool first optimizes each pump station. Under the set head condition, the optimal flow distribution between the pumps can be calculated. Secondly, SiwaPlanBEP determines the head generated by each pump station. The performance characteristics of the pump and plant are parameterized and graphed by means of a table tool and displayed via a monitoring screen.

In addition to reducing energy consumption and operating costs, SiwaPlanBEP also provides: automatic calculation of the optimal operating conditions of the pump, improved operational reliability and water supply safety. At the same time, the pump operates in a low-wear mode, which reduces investment and maintenance costs.

SiwaPlanBEP can be run as a stand-alone module or in conjunction with the operational planning tool SiwaPlanOptim. If a joint approach is adopted, reservoir management can be added to the calculations in the branch water pipeline and the complex water supply network. The system will describe the optional pump combination, flow rate and operating cost in the “mode” state. Efficiency will be significantly improved. The combination of SiwaPlanBEP and SiwaPlanOptim can be done in a direct way or by assigning parameters. In the first case, the pump is parameterized by the SiwaPlanBEP module and the optimal pump combination is transferred to SiwaPlanOptim. In the second case, SiwaPlanBEP calculates the optimal pump configuration based on the flowmeter and then manually adds these configurations to SiwaPlanOptim.

SiwaPlanBEP is part of the Siemens SiwaPlan Water Management System module and was developed specifically for water and wastewater systems. The SiwaPlan module is compatible with the original control and automation technology in the pump station.
