Geoff Rondeau, product manager at Danaher Motion, said: "The new TFD torque feedback device provides an input signal to the controller that controls the steering actuator or other remote control applications. The device also continuously provides variable rotation. The moment output simulates the 'feeling' of the user of the hydraulic system, making it easier for the operator to adapt to the electric steering or steer-by-turn vehicle system. TFD torque feedback devices are available in five standard configurations with torque densities ranging from 2.5Nm to 12Nm. The unit has been tested to use up to 10 million rpm at 120 rpm and is suitable for temperatures ranging from -35oC to 60oC. The TFD is dimensioned from 83mm (inserted hole) x 102mm (fixed disk) and can be integrated as a separate component into any electric or steer-by-wire steering system or as a component of a larger Danaher Motion vehicle system.
The TFD torque feedback device uses an advanced friction material and a patent-pending electromagnetic drive system that provides a variable torque output proportional to the DC input for steering systems and other line control systems. The device also includes redundant sensors for failsafe axis feedback and maintainability. The modular design makes the unit easy to meet specific application needs. All components and final devices comply with the European Directive No. 2002/95/EC on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) and can be used in systems certified to EN1175 and IEC61058.
