Effect of hardness and density of grinding media on ultrafine

The pulverization and dispersion of the material by the ultrafine grinding equipment is mainly achieved by the grinding medium, so the grinding medium has a great influence on the ultrafine pulverization process. Excessive density and hardness not only increase the cost, but also have the following adverse effects:

1) When the concentration and viscosity of the slurry are constant, the excessively high density of the grinding medium will mostly sink to the bottom of the barrel, causing uneven distribution of the grinding medium in the barrel, and the greater the difference in density, the more unreasonable the distribution. Under normal working conditions, under the joint action of gravity and centrifugal force, the stroke between the grinding media of the host bottom is reduced, the impact strength is weakened, the probability of the grinding media being squeezed between each other is increased, the energy consumption of the grinding medium is increased, and the grinding efficiency is lowered. It may even cause the maximum particle size of the product to go out of control.

2) When the difference between the specific gravity of the slurry and the density of the grinding medium is too large, a large amount of grinding medium sinks to the bottom, which not only affects the reasonable distribution of the grinding medium in the barrel, but also makes the host start again difficult.

3) The hardness is large, the toughness is inferior, and the impact resistance is also poor. While the grinding medium impacts the material to be ground at a high speed, it is also easy to cause its own crushing, increasing the possibility that itself and other grinding media are crushed.
