Iraq prosecutes companies and individuals involved in "oil-for-food" corruption cases

According to comprehensive reports, the Iraqi government sued a group of companies and individuals who illegally profited from the United Nations "oil-for-food" program on June 30.
It is reported that the Iraqi government has submitted the indictment to the United States courts in order to obtain compensation.
Companies indicted include: oil company Chevron, BNP Paribas, UK pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline and Roche Group, and Swiss engineering company ABB Group.
The UN’s investigation report in October 2005 stated that more than 2,200 companies in 66 countries paid Iraqi officials a total of US$1.8 billion in bribes and kickbacks in order to obtain Iraqi oil contracts.
