Rolls-Royce Hybrid System for Multi-Purpose Ship "OV Ryvingen"

The Rolls-Royce company will supply a battery pack capacity of 2,000 kWh for the "Ryvingen". The capacity of the previous hybrid sister ship "Bøkfjord" is also likely to increase from 850 kWh, twice the size of Norway's first all-electric passenger ferry "Ampere".

The battery power of the "Ryvingen" can be operated for a few hours without the use of a diesel engine, and can also be powered off when the ship is parked, thus shutting down the diesel engine. The battery can also be charged from the shore-based power of the port if necessary.

Kurt-Ivar Gram Franck, project manager of the Norwegian Coastal Administration, said, “We named the first hybrid ship built by Denmark in September 2016. The ship received the honor of the Danish annual ship type. Now we spread this again. The concept is very much looking forward to receiving new and more innovative and environmentally friendly ships."

“Bøkfjord” and “Ryvingen” are multi-purpose vessels, mainly for oil leakage protection and navigation maintenance, and are the third and fourth vessels in the 6-8 ship renewal project of the Norwegian Coastal Administration’s fleet. .

The "Ryvingen" is 46.6 meters long and 12 meters wide and is expected to be delivered by the end of 2018. Rolls-Royce has signed a contract with the Norwegian Fitjar Mekaniske Verft shipyard to deliver a hybrid system with two generator sets and battery packs, a Bergen mainframe, permanent magnet azimuth propeller, automation system, SAVe CUBE power system, dynamic positioning And control systems, etc. These kits will reduce the noise and vibration levels on board and provide a good working environment for the crew.
