Comparison of H.265 and Other Coding Techniques
1. H.265 and H.264
The H.265 standard revolves around the existing video coding standard H.264, and retains some of the original technologies while improving some related technologies. Advanced techniques are used to improve the relationship between code stream, encoding quality, delay and algorithm complexity to achieve optimal settings. The specific research contents include: improving compression efficiency, improving robustness and error recovery capability, reducing real-time delay, reducing channel acquisition time and random access delay, and reducing complexity. H.264 is optimized by the algorithm and can implement standard definition digital image transmission at a speed of less than 1mbps. H.265 can realize transmission of 720p ordinary high-definition audio and video transmissions at a transmission rate of 1 to 2mbps.
In fact, the H.265 and H.264 standards have some overlap in various functions. For example, the hi10p part of the H.264 standard supports 10-bit color depth video. In addition, the H.264 part can also support 4:4:4 chroma sampling and 14-bit feature depth. In this case, the difference between H.265 and H.264 is that the former can use less bandwidth to provide the same functionality at the expense of device computing power. Therefore, H.265 encoded video requires more computing power to decode, as shown in Figure 1.
2. H.265 and SVAC
In the field of high-definition video surveillance, H.265 and SVAC are two major standards that are emerging. The H.265 standard has been greatly improved in terms of compression efficiency, parallel processing capability, and network adaptability. Its development and application will also provide the current security monitoring industry with more choices and greater room for development. The SVAC standard also has its unique advantages.
As the existing video and audio decoding standards are for broadcast TV and mass entertainment applications, the direct use in the field of security prevention has great incompatibility. The First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security and Zhongxing Micro Corporation led the development of SVAC standards (standards No.: GB/T25724-2010) This standard is a national standard for the special application of security monitoring field, meeting the real-time transmission of video images, the adaptability of the 24-hour surveillance environment, and the fidelity of scene video and audio information. Reducibility and so on, at the same time also solved the current video surveillance system due to the source coding standard is not uniform, it is difficult to interconnect and interoperate problems.
Compared with H.265 standard, SVAC standard technology has the following advantages:
(1) Encryption authentication is highly secure.
(2) ROI region coding.
(3) Video information embedding.
(4) Scalable Video Decoding (SVC).
It is not difficult to see that the SVAC standard is introduced for the high security requirements of the security industry applications. Security, certification and Other auxiliary functions are the highlights of this standard, but for now, H.265 can be said to have fulfilled the Geography, people and." On the basis of the user, its predecessor, H.264, already has a considerable number of users, which creates an excellent environment for the promotion of H.265. At the cost level, the cost of SVC standard products in the source code and core chips is higher than H.265, which makes H.265 coding more common in the civilian market. At the technical level, SVAC is better than H.264, but it is slightly inferior to H.265.
Overall, there is a technology and cost advantage (H.265) and a policy and market advantage (SVAC). The security market in the future may be split into two: the civilian market and the government market. The civilian market may be dominated by H.265 coding technology; government markets are likely to use SVAC coding technology.
