People's Network: China's first laser welding equipment was introduced in the Han Dynasty

Cars are made of welded steel plates of different thicknesses. In the past, conventional spot welding had insufficient strength and some parts needed to be supported. Nowadays, Wuhan has developed a new technology for laser welding, which can make these support “classes” and the weight of the car is expected to reduce by 20%.

Yesterday, it was learned from China Labor Engineering that the two years of cooperation between Huagong Laser and Wuhan Iron and Steel Research Institute has led to the development of the first domestic laser welding unit and will be put into use.

This means that the history of car companies in China relying on foreign equipment to weld car steel plates has been rewritten, and China has taken a big step in the application of laser welding.

This tailor-made welding equipment is equipped with the world's most advanced 5-kilowatt compact fiber laser, as well as a flexible robot that can fully automate the laser welding of tailor-made welded blanks.

According to the test, the strength of laser welding is 50% higher than that of conventional spot welding, and the welding speed is 11 meters per minute, which is 5.5 times that of traditional spot welding. Using laser welding technology, the number of body parts is reduced by approximately 25%, and the body weight is reduced by more than 20%. According to relevant data analysis, for every 50 kilograms of vehicle weight lost, 2 kilograms per litre of fuel can be opened.

It is reported that Wuhan Iron & Steel will build 20 laser welding equipment production lines nationwide, and the annual output value will reach 10 billion yuan.
