Shell CEO: Global new energy production accounted for 40% in 2050

On September 11, 2012, Peter Voser, CEO of Royal Dutch Shell Group, said at the 2012 Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin that by 2050, traditional energy will still account for about 60% of the world's total energy production, and new energy will account for 30%. -40%. He also said that the new energy and traditional energy industries are not competitive. In the coming decades, the development of traditional energy and new energy will go hand in hand.

Peter Voser said, “In 40 years, we need to produce twice as much energy as we do today to meet world demand. All kinds of energy are needed. Traditional energy, especially natural gas, is very valuable. At the same time, new energy It is also a development area that companies are concerned about. We believe that by 2050, 60% of the world's total energy production will still be oil, natural gas and coal. New energy will account for 30%-40% of this."

"In the next few decades, energy companies will mainly develop and invest in traditional energy such as natural gas. At the same time, they will also develop new energy. Therefore, the two are not competing with each other. In the long run, new energy will also benefit society."

For China's energy development, Peter Voser pointed out in particular that during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, China will increase the exploration and development of natural gas resources. By 2015, China's natural gas consumption will increase from the current 4% to 8%. He believes that under the premise of maintaining 7% economic growth, this can effectively meet China's energy needs.

In recent years, China has increased shale gas development, and the Ministry of Land and Resources has recently lowered the threshold for the development of shale gas tenders. In this regard, Peter Voser said that prospects for the development of shale gas in China are good, "but still have time to prove." He said that China can apply North American countries' energy development experience and principles to cooperate with companies and countries that have a leading position in this field.

Asked about Shell itself, Peter Voser expressed great optimism about the company's development prospects in China. He said that Shell has established a very good relationship with the Chinese market and the Chinese government.
