At the beginning of the 2014 new year, the first batch of 20 Liberated J6P heavy trucks matching Xichai Aowei 11-liter natural gas engines will be unveiled in Shanxi, Shaanxi, and Jiangsu. This is another environmentally friendly high-power natural gas engine independently developed by Xichai after it developed the domestic maximum power natural gas CA6SN1-42E5N engine in cooperation with FAW Technology Center. This indicates that Xichai's R&D level for high-power natural gas engines has gradually reached the international level. It not only fills the blank of the Xichai 310-375 hp natural gas engine platform, but also realizes the full range of coverage of the Xichai natural gas engine in the 170-420 power segment. It is also a new starting point for Xichai to implement the new energy strategy of FAW Group.

As one of the important strategic pieces of FAW Jiefang’s future development, the J6P liberated natural gas heavy truck is the hope for the development strategy of FAW's medium- and heavy-duty truck system. This time, the X6 diesel engine of Xichai Aowei, which matches the Liberation J6P heavy truck, is adhering to the quality of the CA6SM2 series. The concept of product value and the characteristics of market segments are characterized by advanced technology, superior economic performance, low carbon emission, reliability and durability. The power coverage range is 310-375 horsepower and the maximum torque is 1450-1650 N.m. The economic and environmental protection of natural gas is used as fuel, and the emission has reached the five national standards.

According to Wang Ping, the person in charge of the Xichai design and development project, in order to win the competitive advantage of FAW in the natural gas heavy truck market, in May 2011, Xichai United FAW Technology Center launched the development of the CA6SM2 series natural gas engine project. Each optimization design takes low-carbon as the goal. Through the redesign of special parts such as cylinder heads, piston rings, valves, valve seat friction pairs, stem seals, etc., a high safety index is achieved, and gas safety is guaranteed to the maximum. At the same time, the friction parts of the moving parts at the international level ensure low fuel consumption. With advanced gas systems, lean combustion technology is used to draw in more air, resulting in higher combustion efficiency and lower gas consumption. Through calibration, the fuel cost per 100 kilometers can be saved by more than 30%. Compared with the diesel engines with the same power, the carbon monoxide emission can be reduced by 90%, the carbon dioxide can be reduced by 20%, the hydrocarbons can be reduced by 60%, the nitrogen oxides can be reduced by 60%, and no carbon deposition can occur. Dilution of lubricating oil can effectively reduce wear of parts, can withstand strong heat load, and prolong engine life.

Xichai is the first domestic manufacturer of natural gas engines. Up to now, Xichai's R&D team has successfully developed five low-carbon, environmentally friendly Xichai 7.1L, 7.7L, 8.6L, 11L, and 13L series platforms. The natural gas engine, covering a power range of 170 to 420 horsepower, has gradually established Xichai's fully independent intellectual property rights natural gas engine research platform, which has formed the powerful capabilities developed independently by Xichai Natural Gas Engine. With its outstanding advantages in energy saving and environmental protection, Xichai's natural gas engines not only have wings for the “Green Bus”, but also become the core driving force for liberating natural gas heavy trucks.
