Modern Steel plans to build new galvanized production line

South Korea's Hyundai Steel Group plans to build a second hot-dip galvanizing line to meet the increasing demand for automotive panels. The production line is expected to cost 129.5 billion won (about 126 million US dollars), with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons. The Group has started to order equipment since June and plans to start construction on August 1st and strive to start commercial production in February 2016.

At present, Hyundai Steel, both the Dangjin and Shuntian plants produce cold coiled and hot-dip galvanized coil products. Although the Group declined to announce specific capacity, the industry estimates that the total capacity of cold coiled and hot-dip galvanized coils is approximately 6 million tons per year.

In addition, due to the expansion of production capacity of the No. 1 plate plant in Tangjin Plant, the sales volume of modern steel in the second quarter increased to 5.087 million tons, an increase of 11% year-on-year. Among them, sales of flat steel products were approximately 3.195 million tons, up 7% year-on-year, and sales of long products were 1.892 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19%. In addition, the Group is gradually increasing the sales of high value-added products, such as automobile plates and ship plates. In the second quarter, the sales volume of the Group’s high value-added products has increased to 2.13 million tons, accounting for 42% of the total sales, and it has basically grown by 5 in the past year. percentage point.
