Continental Group to invest 210 million US dollars to expand Brazilian tire plant capacity

Continental has announced that the company will invest 210 million U.S. dollars in Brazil to increase the company's tire production capacity in Kamasiari, Bahia, Brazil.

Continental Group stated that in 2010, the company’s tire sales in Brazil rose by 25% compared with 2009, and commercial vehicle tire sales rose by 38%, setting a record of the highest historical operating performance. The plant produced approximately 4.5 million passenger car tires and 350,000 truck tires in 2010. It is estimated that the annual production capacity of passenger car tires will exceed 5 million, and the annual production capacity of truck tires will reach 450,000.

Matthias Schönberg, the company’s CEO, stated that “this investment is part of the Continental Group's strategy and we plan to substantially increase the global tire business, especially in the BRIC countries. This investment will enable the production capacity of the Kamashari City factory. Double by 2015."

At present, the factory employs 1,150 people and covers a total area of ​​8.61 million square feet (approximately 800,000 square meters). Continental Group stated that this investment will help improve production efficiency. At the same time, 400 jobs will be added after the installation of new equipment.
