Mitsui Chemicals and Mitsui Chemicals will form a joint venture with Brunei state-owned enterprises to establish ammonia manufacturing and sales companies. Ammonia is an important raw material for fertilizers. The joint venture will use Brunei natural gas as a raw material for production and sell the products to Southeast Asia. Mitsui & Mitsui Chemicals is working with Brunei on effective utilization of natural gas to revitalize new industries and will meet Asian demand for agricultural-related products.
The joint venture will start construction in 2012 and plans to begin production in mid-2015.
According to the current plan, Mitsui & Mitsui Chemicals will obtain a majority stake and Brunei State Oil Company will acquire a maximum of 49%. By 2015, the plant's production capacity will reach 850,000 tons of ammonia. Mitsui Chemicals is mainly responsible for providing manufacturing technology, and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. is responsible for developing customer groups.
