The BALPURE system uses electrolytic disinfection technology and was selected by Sasaki for low power consumption, low maintenance requirements and simple operation. This system is superior to the IMO D-2 standard and has no adverse effects on the environment or the ballast tanks of ships.
It is reported that BALPURE's turbulent treatment method, which uses 1% of the total ballast water flow to produce sodium hypochlorite disinfection solution, does not need to be installed in the ballast water main pipeline. On October 18th , Severn Trent De Nora's type-approved BALPURE® ballast water treatment system was selected by Sasaki Shipbuilding for its two new bulk carriers for Toko Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. at its shipyard in Osaki Kamishima, Japan. The two ships were the first new Japanese ships to install the BALPURE system, which passed the International Maritime Organization (IMO) type approval for ballast water specifications in July.
